Types of UPVC Door Handles
If your door handle made of uPVC needs replacing it's essential to find the best replacement for your home. Locksmiths can provide and install high-security uPVC handles with added security features.

The most important measurements you should take are the measurement A (also called PZ) as well as the length of the backplate. Check these measurements to ensure that your new uPVC handles will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a rigid bar that is pivotally positioned around a point (known as a Fulcrum). When you apply force towards the end, the fulcrum will turn in the direction the force is applied. This rotates the force and allows you to lift or move objects that would otherwise require more force to lift.
The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point at which you apply force determines the maximum amount of movement. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The advantage of mechanical force increases as the lever is extended. You can calculate the mechanical advantage by dividing distance from the fulcrum point to the place where you are applying force by the distance between the fulcrum's point and the end of lever.
Levers can also have a variety of effects based on the way in which forces are applied. A lever in class 2 for instance is prone to rotating in the opposite direction when the force applied to it. If you push the handle of a door the force will create rotational effects similar to this.
However, levers don't create energy. They just multiply the force you exert by converting a small amount of effort across a large distance into a greater amount of force that is applied over a smaller distance. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and transport large quantities of cargo. This is also the principle behind the levers you find in a variety of everyday tools like crowbars and fishing rods, claws for hammers, and even your legs when you sit on the hand brakes of your car.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles, also referred to as upvc door handles feature levers on both sides to operate the multipoint locks. They come in a variety of designs and finishes and can be used with a variety of materials including UPVC, Aluminium & Timber doors. They are sold in pairs for the outside and the interior doors with screws and spindles included. repairmywindowsanddoors are also available in handed and unhandled versions to suit different types of users.
These can be used to replace existing upvc door. The levers are lowered to open all multipoint locks and the key is turned to close or unlock the door. They offer a little more security than the standard lever handles for doors, as the locking can only be performed by the inside using the key.
They are not as safe as a cylinder lock but they're a cost-effective way to provide extra security to your home. The only drawback is that they do not provide the same level protection like a cylinder lock and they don't restrict access to the home if the door is left open.
The majority of lever pad door handles made of upvc that we stock are made by the top manufacturers in the industry and will be manufactured with good quality components. In general, they are supplied with a manufacturer's guarantee.
Typically, these will be designed to be compatible with a 92mm lock, or the replacement version called a Paddock lock. They will have an 82mm cylinder center on the inside and 62mm on the outside. They are also fitted with two spindle followers. Some are supplied with the backplate in place, while others can be removed to accommodate different fixing centers.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches are by far the most simple kind of door handles. The lever is pushed down to activate a simple latch inside the door. It can be locked with keys. Certain lever privacy handles work in the same way, but with the addition of a Snib (like a doorknob).
A snib is a very useful tool, particularly in homes where privacy and security are crucial. You can use the snib button to prevent your guest from entering until they are ready. This type handle is also used in doors that are inside such as bedrooms, where you may require a lock to prevent access from outside.
In some instances, snib buttons can cause problems, especially if you have older locks and doors that are warped. If the snib button is accidentally pressed or by someone who isn't familiar with it, the door may slam and lock you out. In most cases, you can be able to get in by knocking the door's frame or the letterbox, but this isn't a good idea.
If your uPVC has a snib, we recommend replacing it with a smart lock from the E-LOK 7 Series. They can be retrofitted to pull handle kits with double turns and come with cover plates that hide the holes that are already present, allowing to make it a seamless installation. The E-LOK uses a smart app to allow you to open the door with mechanical keys or RFID cards and can be configured with passcodes for secure entry and convenience. The system is tested to 200k cycles to ensure durability. The handles themselves are made with a solid metal construction and are BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.
Lever/Moveable Pad
This is a very popular handle design for front doors. It has the advantage of preventing the door from being opened from the outside without keys if the lock is not deadlocked. This is achieved with an external handle that is shaped like a pad that locks into the gap between the handle and the lock case.
This handle is designed to be used with uPVC multipoint locks which use split spindle mechanisms. This kind of operation requires that the internal lever handle and external pad handle both be fitted to the same lock case. This could be a straightforward replacement for the current uPVC handle, but it may also require a lock case change or a new set of handles to handle furniture.
These aluminum levers and movable pad door handles are suitable for uPVC doors and come with a maintenance free slide bearing as well as fixing lugs and spring cassettes supplied. They feature a euro-style cut out and are fitted to a wide range of uPVC and timber doors.
The lever-movable pad is available in many finishes to suit a wide selection of multipoint locks. They are designed to be used with split spindle multipoint locks which have a 92mm cylinder and require a separate split spindle set that is supplied by the lock manufacturer.
